VAR Control for wind turbines was developed at Lake Benton II in 2000 including Dynamic VAR Control for Ride Through. VAR control was implemented at the point of common coupling as well as the wind turbines. During nominal voltage the wind turbines used a central controller to adjust the power factor or reactive power of the wind turbine. During voltage excursions above or below the nominal value the reactive power of each wind turbine was adjusted to either raise or lower voltage at the terminals of the wind turbines and or at the point of common coupling(s). Further, the controller acting in coordination with capacitor banks located on poles within the collector system was designed to provide further reactive support.  At Lake Benton in 2000 there were more technologies implemented please give us a call should you want to know more.
